Photo Series Highlights The Issue Of Human Sex Trafficking from Nigeria to Italy The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime declared Nigeria among the top eight countries with the highest human trafficking rates in the world. In her long-term project Pipeline Paris-based Elena Perlino delves into the shocking reality, concentrating specifically on women trafficked to Italy from Nigeria. The 42-year-old photographer who is originally from Italy, began to notice the presence of young African women working on the streets when she would commute from Turin. “I decided to start from this surreal vision to tell a story. I have been working on the topic for several years, focusing mainly on the Italian connection.” These women come to Europe under the pretence that they will be working as nannies or work in factories, with the hope they can send money back to their families. However, most of their dreams of freedom quickly collapse into a nightmare of prostitution and abuse. Traffickers demand on average more than 50,000 euros (US $60,000) for travel expenses and accommodation, with the women having to work as prostitutes until their debts are paid off. The 80% of women trafficked to Italy come from Benin City (Edo State), in south Nigeria. The photographer explains: “My work attempts to show a complex phenomenon that crosses Italy from North to South. Acte contre nature à la prison de Thiès. Selon Les Echos qui rapporte l’information, deux détenus ont été surpris d’entretenir des rapports sexuels dans les toilettes. Les faits remontent dans la nuit du 24 au 25 mai dernier. Le détenu Samba Fall, qui les a surpris et dénoncé témoigne dans Les Echos :
« (…) J’ai attendu 3 minutes avant d’aller dans les toilettes, j’ai tiré les rideaux et je l’ai ai surpris en train d’entretenir des rapports sexuels. Daouda Diallo était en position debout et Pierre Cissé s’était courbé en s’appuyant sur la chaise anglaise. Pierre Cissé avait baissé son pantalon jusqu’aux genoux quant au nommé Daouda Dia, il avait baissé son pantalon un peu sur ses fesses. Daouda Dia a bien introduit son sexe dans l’anus de Pierre Cissé et faisait des mouvements avec ses reins.. Quand il a su que je l’ai vu, Pierre Cissé s’est levé et chercher courir en prétextant que c’est Daouda qui est venu le trouver dans les toilettes. Pierre Cissé condamné à 3 ans pour tentative d’acte contre nature, pédophilie et détournement de mineur a nié les faits. De même que Daouda Dia arrêté pour meurtre et tentative de viol. Malgré leurs dénégations, ils ont été condamnés à 5 de prison par le tribunal des flagrants délits de Thiès.
